Job Title: Public Safety Officer
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Officer to join our team at South Shore Health. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for providing protective services to our community in a professional and supportive manner.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct Proactive Patrols
a. Conduct proactive patrols of the Hospital campus, including parking lots and satellite buildings.
b. Identify security vulnerabilities, safety hazards, and violations of Hospital policy.
c. Take immediate correction action to mitigate the vulnerability or hazard, if possible.
2. Provide Access Control
a. Grant access to locked areas and buildings to authorized staff in possession of a Hospital identification badge.
b. Restrict access to those individuals who have no authorized business on campus in accordance with established policies and procedures.
3. Respond to Emergent Situations
a. Respond immediately in a safe and appropriate manner.
b. Identify yourself by name and department.
c. Assume command and control over the scene.
4. Perform Service-Related Duties
a. Provide service in a prompt and courteous manner.
b. Collect, receive, secure, and return patient valuables and property.
5. Monitor the Hospital Parking Program
a. Enforce the Hospital parking program in a fair and equitable manner.
b. Assure that only authorized vehicles are allowed access to parking areas.
6. Embrace Technological Solutions
a. Monitor the access control system.
b. Monitor and respond to the activation of the infant protection system.
7. Conduct Initial Investigations
a. Respond to the scene of the incident and conduct an initial investigation.
b. Receive victim and witness statements.
8. Complete Incident Reports and Other Required Documentation
a. Complete all incident reports prior to the end of the assigned shift.
b. Incident reports are objective, accurate, clear, chronological, and concise.
9. Coordinate the Snow Removal Effort and Respond to Other Weather-Related Emergencies
a. Monitor snowfall and contact approved snow removal vendors.
b. Coordinate the snow removal effort, prioritizing specific entrances and parking lots.
10. Foster a Culture of Safety
a. Attend all department-sponsored safety training programs.
b. Make appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times.
Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum of 6 months healthcare security and public safety experience required, preferably in an acute care hospital environment.
Licenses/Registrations: MA Drivers (or CDL) and verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
Skills: Knowledge of community policing, risk analysis, and crime prevention concepts and practices. Strong problem-solving, critical and analytical thinking, good judgment, and creative resolutions for positive outcomes.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift people/equipment, sit, walk, and/or stand for extended periods of time and withstand adverse weather conditions.
