POSITION OVERVIEW
The Opportunity
COSA is looking for an innovative leader to fill the position of Chief Operations Officer for Educational Services.

This role will collaborate closely with the Superintendent and other executive leaders to design and execute the operational frameworks that will enhance the organization’s educational and support initiatives.

As the principal leader for daily operations, the Chief Operations Officer will report directly to the Superintendent and will oversee the strategic planning and optimization of various business functions, including finance, accounting, security, nutrition, transportation, procurement, and facilities management.

The Chief Operations Officer will engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, educators, families, community members, and business leaders, to ensure that COSA fulfills its commitments to students and families, promotes high achievement, and fosters an equitable learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Work alongside the Superintendent and district leadership to prioritize initiatives that ensure equitable academic success for all students.

Build partnerships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including district staff, students, families, and community organizations.

Assume the daily responsibilities of the Superintendent as needed.
Serve as a liaison with local, state, and national organizations.
Provide strategic advice to the Superintendent on financial and operational issues.
Assist in the overall planning, organization, and management of the organization.
Establish goals and objectives for the Business & Operations departments, offering clear guidance to staff and programs.
Identify and implement innovative business practices to enhance service efficiency.

Participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and the Superintendent's Cabinet.

Prepare and present reports and analyses (e.g., budget guidelines, staffing ratios, program evaluations, long-term financial planning) to keep the Superintendent, Board, and other stakeholders informed about the organization’s financial status.

Provide leadership and oversight to senior managers and teams responsible for:

  • Finance, budget management, accounting, and payroll
  • Business operations, procurement, security, and transportation
  • Facilities management and project oversight
  • School modernization and bond management
  • Information technology and innovation

Oversee the development of the annual budget to meet the organization’s needs while adhering to regulatory requirements.


Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Over 10 years of experience in a leadership role within business, including at least 5 years in areas such as finance, accounting, operations, technology, or facilities management.

Other combinations of training and experience that may provide the necessary skills and knowledge will be considered.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in PK-12 public education, ideally within a large urban district.
Proven track record in implementing and managing shared services.
Experience in developing large-scale business programs in an educational reform context.
Ability to think systemically and create actionable plans.
Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations to achieve common objectives.
Experience in project management, including resource allocation across multiple initiatives.
Strong consensus-building and conflict resolution skills; capable of navigating difficult discussions.
Ability to effectively manage within existing political frameworks.
Skilled in team development and management, particularly during periods of growth and change; adept at recognizing and leveraging individual talents.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Capacity to listen and respond to feedback constructively.
Demonstrated integrity and ethical leadership.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Salary:
$200,000 based on experience.
