Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY:

The SKY Academy Educational Facilitator is responsible for creating a supportive learning environment that encourages students to achieve their fullest potential across various dimensions of growth, including intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological development, in alignment with the YMCA and SKY Academy's mission and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

At the start of the school day, the educational facilitator will:

  • Check in at the administrative office to receive orientation regarding school policies, attendance protocols, discipline guidelines, class schedules, and lesson plans.
  • Consult with the health office to understand any medical considerations for students in assigned classes.
  • Inquire about the school's Emergency Response Plan.
  • Acquaint themselves with the school layout, classroom procedures, and emergency exit routes from the designated classrooms.

Within the classroom, the educational facilitator will:

  • Assume all responsibilities of the regular classroom instructor promptly and in accordance with established school policies. This may involve supervision during bus, lunchroom, playground, or hallway duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Adhere to the instructions provided by the regular teacher or notify the administrator if no plans are available.
  • Verify that adequate supplies are available in the classroom to execute lesson plans effectively.
  • Maintain standard classroom routines and discipline protocols.
  • Dedicate the entire assignment to working with and supporting students.
  • Avoid personal tasks during the assignment; the educational facilitator is expected to fulfill the regular teacher's instructions, including grading assignments and providing a summary of the day's activities.
  • Remain in the classroom if a student teacher or intern is present.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role is performed in various settings including classrooms, offices, and school facilities. It requires a full range of motion, including manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Vision, speech, and hearing must be within normal ranges, or reasonable accommodations should be made for task completion. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds is necessary.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Teaching Certification issued by the State of Florida.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of child development and characteristics specific to the assigned age group.
  • Familiarity with prescribed curriculum is preferred.
  • Awareness of current educational research.
  • Basic proficiency in current technology usage.
  • Knowledge of diverse learning styles and the ability to employ varied teaching methods.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Capability to implement activities for optimal effectiveness.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate supervision to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Skill in collaborating effectively with peers, administrators, and others.

CERTIFICATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of an initial orientation/training program covering School District policies, safety and security procedures, educational liability laws, professional responsibilities, and ethics.
  • Minimum training requirement at the bachelor's level. Under exceptional circumstances, exceptions may be approved for individuals with at least sixty (60) hours of university credit.
