As a key member of our engineering team, you will engage with design engineers from the outset to ensure optimal manufacturability. Your responsibilities will include creating initial prototypes, designing efficient build processes, and finalizing procedures for production handoff.
Your role will involve testing innovative manufacturing techniques for large satellite structures, mechanisms, and integrated electronic systems.
In the first six months, you will focus on developing manufacturing methods and tooling for large solar array assemblies, defining workflows for subsystems, and collaborating with design teams to enhance the manufacturability of spacecraft components.
Within your first year, you will implement these advanced manufacturing techniques on flight hardware and transition the technology you develop into production.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with design teams to ensure manufacturability during the initial design phase, contributing to design and tooling concepts.
- Innovate manufacturing systems for large spacecraft assemblies, including welded and bolted structures, mechanisms, and electrical subassemblies.
- Develop custom tools and processes to support the manufacturing technologies you create, including Manufacturing Execution System software.
- Showcase advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes, collaborating with design teams to enhance manufacturability.
- Establish the subassembly build flow and implement it in the production process for satellites.
- Collaborate with a team of advanced manufacturing engineers to conduct research and development of novel manufacturing technologies for current and future spacecraft products.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in integration, testing, or automation engineering roles (including internships and relevant projects).
- Experience collaborating with technicians and developing build tooling.
- Proven ability to set up a manufacturing or production floor for initial builds.
- Experience in designing and implementing technologies for avionics subassembly manufacturing, including wire harness and PCBA/mechanical enclosure assembly.
- Experience in designing tooling for mechanical subassemblies.
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing standards, including torque specifications, welding standards, and quality assurance protocols.
- Experience in high-volume, rapid production environments.
- Proven track record of building and leading engineering teams, with a demonstrated ability to mentor team members towards successful outcomes.
- Familiarity with MES for establishing procedures and managing non-conformance.
The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000, plus equity in the company. Salary will be determined based on various factors, including knowledge, skills, education, and experience level.
