Position Title: Emergency Veterinary Nurse

Position Overview:

The Emergency Veterinary Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering care to sick and injured animals within the Veterinary Medical Center. This role primarily supports the Small Animal Emergency Service and involves instructing and demonstrating techniques to students. Responsibilities include assisting students, veterinary technicians, and veterinarians in their duties, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of hospital areas.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care for ill and injured animals.
  • Support emergency triage and patient stabilization.
  • Assist in nursing care and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with a team of specialized veterinarians and technicians.

Skills Development:

In this position, you will develop and utilize skills in emergency triage, patient stabilization, and nursing care. You will have the opportunity to work alongside four Boarded Critical Care Specialized Veterinarians and two Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialists, enhancing your career development.


Work Schedule:

This position requires three 12-hour shifts, with options for first and third shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays.


Education and Experience Requirements:

Applicants should possess knowledge typically acquired through two to three years of college or technical/vocational training in Veterinary Technology. Additionally, six months to one year of progressively responsible experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug dosing, and sterilization is preferred. Candidates must be licensed as a Veterinary Technician in the State of Michigan or achieve such certification within one year of employment.


Desired Qualifications:

Experience in an educational environment and a background in emergency medicine are highly valued.
