Job Overview

The Engineering Manager at Sim Surgical is responsible for leading the manufacturing engineering team in developing and optimizing technical manufacturing solutions to support the company's state-of-the-art machine shop. This role focuses on driving process improvements, ensuring manufacturability of designs, and enhancing production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the manufacturing engineering team, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure high-performance engineering solutions that meet the company's goals.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop and implement technical manufacturing solutions that optimize production efficiency and quality.
  • Oversee the design and development of manufacturing processes, ensuring they meet operational goals and standards for quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Ensure that all engineering drawings and designs are manufacturable before releasing them to production, working closely with the design team to resolve issues.
  • Establish and maintain process quality by designing test methods, setting standards, and ensuring the proper use of gauges and testing equipment.
  • Lead efforts to reduce equipment and tooling downtime, scrap, and production inefficiencies by analyzing and optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Drive workforce utilization, space planning, workflow optimization, and layout design to improve cost-efficiency and quality.
  • Lead the quoting process for manufacturing projects, ensuring accurate cost estimation and alignment with production capabilities and financial goals.
  • Manage the NPI (New Product Introduction) transfer price process, ensuring that new products are transitioned smoothly from development to production with accurate pricing structures.
  • Lead the resolution of customer, technical, and quality issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Develop and implement procedures, work instructions, and forms to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing new manufacturing technologies and methods to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Provide technical leadership on prototyping, proof of concept development, and Design of Experiments (DOE) to ensure innovation in manufacturing processes.
  • Lead the conversion of solid models to different formats and ensure seamless integration between design and production.
  • Provide regular reports on engineering and production activities to senior management, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on production priorities and drive successful project outcomes.
  • Manage budgets related to manufacturing engineering activities, ensuring cost control while maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes (e.g., milling, turning, wire-EDM, welding), with a strong background in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers, with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Strong mechanical and mechanism design aptitude, with experience using statistical tools for process analysis and improvement.
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Engineering/Design (CAE/CAD) software, with a preference for SolidWorks; experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus.
  • Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with a focus on innovation and process optimization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards related to manufacturing processes and production quality.
