ABOUT THE ROLE
The Surplus division of Sigma Equipment is on the rise, and we are seeking motivated, detail-oriented professionals to contribute to our growth. Our Surplus division specializes in the sale of parts, components, and smaller equipment utilized in the manufacturing sector through online platforms. The Procurement Specialist is tasked with researching, assessing, prospecting leads, negotiating, and acquiring products for Sigma Surplus inventory. This position involves approximately 50% travel to inspect sites and evaluate components for potential acquisition.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct outreach to potential suppliers, highlighting the advantages of selling parts and components to Sigma Surplus.
- Manage a pipeline of supplier leads, ensuring timely follow-up and engagement.
- Gather images and detailed information to assess the viability of leads.
- Collaborate with suppliers to identify optimal purchasing methods (e.g., crate program, on-site lot purchase, consignment).
- Plan travel itineraries for site visits, ensuring efficient scheduling and coordination with prospecting clients while adhering to travel budgets.
- Create detailed spreadsheets outlining specific items for acquisition, analyzing which items fit the purchasing criteria.
- Work closely with the Surplus Listing Lead to establish appropriate sale pricing for targeted items.
- Prepare purchase offers (both verbal and written) for suppliers.
- Negotiate purchase agreements with suppliers to finalize transactions.
- Follow up on pending supplier leads to gauge ongoing interest in selling their items.
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to secure approval for purchase offers.
- Coordinate with the Surplus team to ensure efficient processing of incoming items and arrange for final payments.
- Review auction listings to identify potential acquisitions and discuss with the team to set purchase limits.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A college degree is required, preferably in a technical field.
- Prior experience in procurement is highly desirable.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and disciplined work ethic.
- Proficient in computer applications (Excel, Word, and other web-based tools used in the procurement process).
- Demonstrated experience in negotiation and closing deals, ideally in a B2B context.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
