Psychiatric Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at the Ohio Department of Commerce. As a Psychiatric Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to individuals with mental health conditions. Your expertise and dedication will play a critical role in helping our patients achieve optimal health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assume primary nursing responsibility for assigned residents, including nursing treatment planning, verification and review of physician orders, chart audits, and self-medication plans.
- Participate in related meetings as required by Supervisor and communicate medical information to parents/guardians when appropriate.
- Fill in for psychiatric meetings as necessary and work with physicians on a rotating basis to set up charts, verify orders, and communicate change of resident status to interdisciplinary team members.
- Process physician orders, enter orders into computerized records, and communicate change of resident status to appropriate team members.
- Schedule follow-up care of residents with physicians as needed and communicate medical appointments to personnel.
- Assess and review preventative health screening forms and ensure quarterly physical exams are completed on residents.
- Assist in feeding, grooming, and self-care, and evaluate client and staff injuries to administer and record first aid as necessary.
- Respond to medical emergencies and assist in decision-making in Supervisor's absence.
- Monitor health care charts on living areas to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of health care.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate client self-medication programs, and provide health teaching and direction to family, staff, and clients as directed.
- Assist in orienting and training new staff, conduct and participate in In-Service training sessions, and provide clinical oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
We offer a competitive salary of $33.45 per hour with a first increase in 180 days to $35.07, plus additional shift differentials and recruitment supplements. Our benefits package includes quality, affordable medical coverage, free dental, vision, and basic life insurance premiums after one year of service, paid time off, and 11 paid holidays per year.
RequirementsTo be considered for this role, you must have a current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio, issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of the Revised Code. You should also possess excellent nursing skills, strong communication and teamwork abilities, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
