Ecological Field Specialist (Field Based)
ERM is seeking Ecological Field Specialists to conduct biological assessments, avian nesting evaluations, and oversight during construction activities.

Ideal candidates should demonstrate adaptability and responsiveness in a dynamic work setting where project requirements, locations, and responsibilities may vary.

The position of an Ecological Field Specialist necessitates a blend of technical expertise alongside robust organizational and communication capabilities. This is a full-time (30-50hrs/week), fixed-term position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct avian nesting evaluations.
  • Carry out bird population assessments.
  • Perform biological assessments for California species, including botanical surveys.
  • Monitor biological activities related to construction projects.
  • Utilize electronic data collection methods.
  • Employ handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS technology for data gathering.
  • Compile daily reports and survey documentation.
  • Assist with office-related tasks as necessary.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in ecological fieldwork.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with avian nesting evaluations and raptor surveys is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with biological assessments for California species; botanical knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in monitoring construction activities.
  • Knowledge of avian survey protocols and general bird identification skills are essential.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions and on challenging terrains.
  • Proficient in sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial imagery).
  • Strong attention to detail in documenting work.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in the field for extended periods while maintaining a positive demeanor.
  • Ability to travel, including potential overnight stays.
  • Demonstrated independent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • A strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
