Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planner to join our team at the City of San Antonio. As a key member of our Planning Department, you will be responsible for performing complex planning and supervisory work, including the development of recommendations on planning and zoning issues, staffing of boards and committees, and the review of work performed by subordinate planners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct special studies on projects such as land use and zoning plans.
  • Update the City's Comprehensive Plan and various components of the plan.
  • Prepare written reports and make presentations at public and community meetings and boards and commissions.
  • Provide technical support to boards, commissions, and committees.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff members.
  • Oversee the preparation and reproduction of publications issued by the Department.
  • Make recommendations to other City Departments.
  • Respond to requests for information from management, officials, and the public.
  • Review, coordinate, and evaluate plat and development plan applications.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct neighborhood meetings with residents of the rezone areas.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years increasingly responsible urban planning experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory or lead work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in city, urban, or regional planning, geography, public administration, or a related field.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
  • Experience in land use planning.
  • Experience in urban planning.
  • Experience in urban design.
  • Experience in community engagement.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Analytics experience.
  • Computer skills including knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Suite, and GIS.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
