Respiratory Therapist Role Overview

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Clinical Respiratory Specialist to join our team in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Job Summary
  • We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients across various settings.
About the Position

This is a full-time role working 36 hours per week, with night shifts. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient care and outcomes.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care to patients, including administering respiratory procedures and modalities as per established standards and policies.
  • Operating specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues, and assisting physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable to the facility.
  • Administering medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient-driven respiratory protocols (PDRPs) as prescribed.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper functionality of equipment, and troubleshooting issues as necessary.
  • Educating and instructing patients on the purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
  • Facilitating clinical problem-solving and collaborating with other departments to provide education on managing patients.
  • Adapting to policies and procedures for various service areas, performing tasks and/or special duties as required by assignment, and maintaining performance standards and organizational behaviors.
  • Promoting a culture of safety by recognizing and applying proper safety measures to prevent patient harm, reporting patient safety events and near misses in a timely manner, and seeking to identify potential safety issues and implementing corrective actions.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the AHA within six months of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the AHA within six months of employment, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) within six months of employment.
  • No prior experience is required; however, previous experience in respiratory care is preferred.
