About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Anne Arundel Dermatology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians and other providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm their identity and vital signs.
  • Prepare procedure trays and ensure adequate supplies for the department.
  • Assist with patient care, including obtaining and recording vital signs, organizing patient flow, and setting up equipment.
  • Prepare and route lab specimens to the correct laboratory, as directed by the patient's insurance plan.
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Check and respond to to-do lists and nurse lines.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory equipment and instruments, maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard expired supplies, and keep accurate records.
  • Ensure infection control and maintain stocked supply rooms and cabinets.
  • Order, sort, restock, and inventory all supplies.
  • Document medical instructions given to patients and review wound care with patients as needed.
  • Administer anesthesia and injections for procedures.
  • Ensure timely handling of phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
  • Able to triage patient problems and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with and compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections and knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies and basic computer skills, including EMR utilization.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, and more.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and fluency in English.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Ability to travel to satellite offices as needed.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or completion of a bachelors degree program in the pre-med or pre-physicians assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
