OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Animal Care Specialist collaborates with the veterinary team to ensure optimal medical treatment for pets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Uphold and embody the core values of Mars, Inc. within the team.

• Prepare examination areas with all necessary medical supplies and equipment for the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician.

• Assist the Client Services Coordinator, Veterinary Assistant, and Veterinary Technician as needed.

• Safely hold or restrain animals during medical examinations, treatments, or vaccinations.

• Conduct routine laboratory tests as permitted by state regulations.

• Monitor the well-being of hospitalized animals, ensuring their comfort through appropriate care.

• Administer baths and treatments for skin conditions as directed by veterinary professionals.

• Maintain cleanliness of surgical instruments and the treatment area.

• Ensure the facility remains clean and orderly, including laundry, dishwashing, mopping, and waste disposal.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong multitasking abilities, managing various responsibilities simultaneously without compromising quality.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a command of English grammar and vocabulary.

• Highly organized, capable of bringing order to complex situations.

• Proficient problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to challenges.

• Commitment to providing exceptional client service and ensuring a positive experience for pet owners.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and provide clear directions.

• Basic mathematical skills for handling measurements and calculations.

• Competent in using computers and relevant software applications.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

• Flexibility to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and evenings.

• Requires physical stamina for tasks involving lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.

• Exposure to a moderate noise level typical of a veterinary environment.

• Routine interaction with animals that may pose risks, including bites or scratches.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma preferred.

• Minimum of one year of related experience, with a focus on customer service.
