Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology to join our faculty team at San Joaquin Delta College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching organized classes primarily in the psychology discipline, with a primary responsibility of teaching up to 10 units (part-time) in the assigned discipline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction: Instruct courses in psychology in accordance with credit course outlines approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • Curriculum Development: Maintain expertise in current teaching methods, discipline knowledge, and discipline-specific technologies.
  • Student Support: Assist students in achieving stated course objectives, evaluate student progress, and provide counseling services and/or tutorial assistance as needed.
  • Departmental Contributions: Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes to ensure program success.
  • Community Engagement: Support the Division Dean in cooperating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses, and information relevant to the needs of students and various programs.
  • Professional Development: Plan and complete approved professional development flex activities each semester.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree: Master's in psychology or bachelor's in psychology and master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work or the equivalent.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Teaching Experience: Experience in teaching postsecondary courses in psychology.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students' ability and learning styles.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to students from different cultures and ethnic groups.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in developing curriculum for discipline-specific courses and/or programs.
  • Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated leadership, ability, and desire to stay current in the field.
  • Community Engagement: Demonstrated leadership and ability to work with business and industry to coordinate the educational program with the needs of the community.
  • Distance Education: Interest in or knowledge of teaching online and other distance education courses.
