Key Responsibilities:

Supply Management: Responsible for obtaining and verifying the necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment to fulfill both patient and surgeon requirements during surgical procedures, ensuring everything is ready and functional.

Aseptic Technique: Utilizes expertise in surgical asepsis when preparing and opening surgical packs, instrument trays, and essential supplies. Monitors the maintenance of sterile techniques among the surgical team both before and during operations. Executes gowning, gloving, and draping procedures in accordance with departmental standards. Maintains a tidy and organized workspace while fulfilling the scrub role.

Surgical Assistance: Executes the duties of a surgical assistant as directed by departmental leadership, under the guidance of the circulating registered nurse in both routine and urgent scenarios. Provides surgical instruments and supplies to the surgeon and assistant during procedures, ensuring the surgical team's focus remains on the operative field. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team throughout the operation. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the functionality of surgical instruments.

Effective Communication: Communicates the location of drains, implants, grafts, and other items inserted during surgery. Ensures that the circulating registered nurse is equipped with all necessary information for accurate documentation in the operating room records.

Patient Safety Protocols: Upholds patient safety through proactive measures. Adheres to proper hand hygiene practices, infection control protocols, and isolation procedures. Responds appropriately to emergencies, including fire and disaster situations.

Organizational Skills: Accurately follows instructions, manages multiple tasks, and sets daily priorities effectively.

Qualifications:

High school diploma required. Completion of a nationally accredited surgical technologist educational program and possession of a certified surgical technologist credential from a recognized organization is necessary; alternatively, completion of a surgical technology training program in the military or relevant experience in a healthcare facility may be accepted.
