Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Litigation Attorney to join our team at American Family Insurance. As a key member of our legal department, you will be responsible for providing effective legal representation in moderately complex litigation cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle litigation involving the corporation and/or its insured within established corporate guidelines and applicable code of professional responsibility.
  • Analyze files as litigation progresses and evaluate cases to determine the best course of action.
  • Conduct discovery, motion practice, and draft all necessary pleadings, papers, and briefs to advance litigation.
  • Advocate client position in all forums, including state and federal court, alternative dispute resolution, administrative tribunals, and regulatory hearings.
  • Stay current on state statutes and court decisions and analyze how they affect policy provisions.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions, and discovery and deposing witnesses.
  • Demonstrated litigation experience.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated trial experience.
  • Admission to the Missouri State Bar required. Additional admission to the Illinois Bar preferred.
  • Juris Doctor degree.
Work Environment

This is a primarily home-based role, with occasional travel to courthouses or other legal offices. You will spend 80% of your time working from home, with the remaining 20% spent in the office or traveling.
