Job Summary

This part-time day position at Sonora Quest Laboratories requires a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I/Phlebotomist to assist technical lab staff and collect, process, and prepare biological specimens for analytical testing. The ideal candidate will have excellent reading, writing, and math abilities, as well as strong communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and prepare patient samples, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.
  • Perform waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision, meeting performance standards and knowledge level determined for the approved testing.
  • Track and locate missing specimens, monitor pending lists, and perform maintenance activities on laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Participate in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures, follow established methods and practices, and demonstrate basic problem-solving skills with QC, testing, and computer issues.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, and promote positive communications that enhance teamwork.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and must be 18 years or older if performing phlebotomy.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is subject to completion of career ladder requirements.
  • Position may require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain fingerprint certification.
  • Dependent on department/location, candidate must possess a valid state driver's license in the state of employment and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as defined by state regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant program.
  • Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and handling.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
