Cardiovascular Care Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse in the Coronary Care Progressive Care Unit (PCU) focuses on the treatment and management of both acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, including heart failure. This unit also accommodates patients requiring medical observation.
This telemetry PCU, consisting of 26 beds, is an integral part of Carilion's Cardiovascular Institute. Candidates must enroll in an RN program within 15 months of their start date.

As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently provide high-quality care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in every interaction with patients, their families, visitors, and colleagues. RNs are responsible for coordinating nursing care and delivering personalized care to patients across all age groups. Additionally, registered nurses employ delegation and critical thinking skills to ensure quality service through a collaborative, team-oriented approach to patient care.
The responsibilities of the RN include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting age-specific admissions and ongoing assessments, documenting findings, and utilizing them to formulate a care plan.
- Collaborating with healthcare team members, patients, and families to create, implement, and assess an age-appropriate interdisciplinary care plan, adjusting it as necessary based on patient status changes.
- Evaluating, planning, and implementing patient care to achieve optimal outcomes for patients of all ages, as relevant to the service area.
- Administering and documenting treatments and medications for patients of all ages accurately, using automated systems including electronic medical records.

Essential QualificationsEducation: Graduate from an accredited nursing program or an approved program eligible for the Virginia licensure examination.
Experience: No prior experience required.
Licensure/Certification: Must hold a current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or be eligible for licensure. CPR certification is required, along with ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications as necessary.
Other: Proficiency in computer skills for electronic medical records (EPIC) is required. Successful completion of orientation and competency assessments is mandatory.
