Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Safety and Security Officer is responsible for the comprehensive planning, development, implementation, and oversight of safety and security initiatives within the organization. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous operational coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies within the designated authority.
  • Conduct regular foot patrols of assigned areas, remaining vigilant for any disturbances, safety hazards, or suspicious activities.
  • Assist visitors, employees, and staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Perform routine security and safety inspections of facilities.
  • Address complaints and conduct thorough investigations as necessary.
  • Facilitate transportation services when required.
  • Investigate incidents involving vehicles on the premises.
  • Issue visitor identification and temporary parking permits.
  • Manage main entrance security duties.
  • Support staff in managing disturbances effectively.
  • Prepare detailed reports on accidents and other incidents as required.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, and training of security personnel.
  • Participate in the development and enforcement of safety and fire prevention protocols.

Daily Operations:

  • Conduct daily briefings with security personnel to review assignments and protocols.
  • Provide comprehensive reports and briefings to relevant staff members.
  • Ensure all security equipment is maintained and operational.
  • Manage vehicle traffic entering and exiting the facility.
  • Adhere to property control policies and procedures.
  • Work towards achieving performance standards and goals.
  • Comply with all relevant guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in all areas of responsibility.
  • Follow established conduct guidelines consistently.
  • Assist in enhancing student employability through ongoing support and mentorship.
  • Demonstrate and uphold the core values and principles of the organization.
  • Model and mentor appropriate standards of conduct.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions as required.
  • Monitor student security and accountability during various activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Proficient in basic computer functions and software applications.
  • Familiarity with security and surveillance systems.
  • Understanding of fundamental security protocols.
  • Strong judgment and observational skills.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field. Experience in safety training is preferred, along with a background in residential living settings and youth programs.

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree is preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, as well as the capacity to lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds. Visual acuity is necessary for monitoring activities and ensuring safety.

Work Environment:

This role may involve exposure to various weather conditions and noise levels that can range from moderate to loud.
