Position Overview

Reports To: Parks Supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities: Parks Service Personnel


Qualifications: A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the requirements will be considered.


Educational Background: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: A minimum of four years of relevant work experience is mandatory.

Certifications: CPR Certification required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Coordination: Strategically plan, assign, and oversee tasks for maintenance teams. Provide expert guidance and support to crew members.
  • Sanitation and Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of facilities, including restroom upkeep, trash disposal, and supply replenishment. Monitor and manage mowing, weed control, and edging of park areas.
  • Grounds Management: Operate various equipment such as mowers and edgers. Supervise and participate in the removal of fallen branches and trees, and ensure the upkeep of flower beds and landscaping.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate machinery including bucket trucks and chainsaws. Manage the transportation and handling of equipment as necessary.
  • Irrigation and Water Management: Identify and repair visible water leaks. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with irrigation systems and sprinklers.
  • Safety and Environmental Management: Identify and mitigate potential hazards in park areas. Ensure proper drainage and leveling using appropriate equipment.
  • Communication and Documentation: Maintain regular communication with supervisors regarding ongoing projects and issues. Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Assist in other related duties as assigned to support team objectives.

Success Factors: The following competencies are essential for success in this role:

  • Knowledge of park maintenance standards and practices.
  • Basic plumbing understanding, particularly concerning water leaks and irrigation systems.
  • Proficiency in operating various maintenance equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills for effective task planning and scheduling.
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Problem-solving skills to address maintenance challenges.
  • Physical capability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and operating machinery.
  • Experience in park or grounds maintenance with demonstrated leadership abilities.

Tools and Equipment: Commonly used tools include backhoes, excavators, and tractors.


Work Environment: The role is primarily outdoor-based and may involve working in various weather conditions and environments.

  • Exposure to high or hazardous locations may be required.
  • Regular exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands for this position include:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to perform repetitive motions and fine motor tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Proficiency in operating mechanical equipment.
  • Visual acuity for close and distant tasks.
  • Physical ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl as necessary.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $50,814 - $53,355 ($24.43-$25.65)
