POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this role supports designated classroom and/or community-based Pre-K educators in delivering safe, age-appropriate, and effective educational experiences for Pre-K aged students with disabilities. This position reports to the Principal and designated members of the district-level Department of Exceptional Students' leadership team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides assistance to identified Pre-K students with disabilities within special education Pre-K classrooms, GA Pre-K classrooms, community early learning centers, and natural Pre-K environments. Facilitates instructional activities prepared by the teacher with small groups and individual students. Aids in the preparation of instructional materials (including copying/duplicating materials, constructing bulletin boards, etc.). Assists in data collection and administering informal assessments to monitor students' progress.
Performs specialized duties as required to meet the unique and individual needs of Pre-K aged students with disabilities. These specialized duties may include, but are not limited to, lifting students with limited mobility, assisting with toileting/personal hygiene, aiding in food preparation and feeding, supporting the implementation of medical procedures, and applying specialized behavior management techniques as directed and trained.
Assists with routine record keeping and classroom maintenance.
Contributes to classroom and school-wide routines and management processes. These duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with student arrival and dismissal (e.g., bus unloading/loading, escorting to classrooms, etc.), monitoring students during meal times, overseeing students during rest periods, and performing cleaning and/or sanitizing tasks.
All other duties, as assigned and required, to fulfill the above responsibilities.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must meet one of the following qualifications:
1. Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
OR
3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience as a paraprofessional serving school-aged children is desirable. *Bilingual or bicultural experience may be required for certain positions.
Makes recommendations or decisions that typically affect the classroom environment.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the educational requirements outlined in Formal Education. Note: The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.

Light duty - Primarily involves sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.
NOTE: This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at a step 6 and pays for experience up to a step 8.
