The Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics, Palliative and Extended Care at the San Francisco VA Health Care System. About the Position

The Associate Chief of Staff, Geriatrics, Palliative and Extended Care (ACOS, GPEC) reports directly to the Chief of Staff and serves as the system executive expert in geriatrics, palliative and extended care matters. The ACOS, GPEC has programmatic responsibility for planning, developing, and directing the administrative and operational activities for the Geriatrics, Palliative and Extended Care Service at the SFVAHCS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all GPEC clinical programs, including inpatient and outpatient services, and ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall patient experience.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Geriatrics, Palliative and Extended Care Service, including recruitment and retention of faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with other departments and services to ensure seamless care coordination and patient flow.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and best practices in geriatrics, palliative and extended care.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a doctoral degree (MD, DO, or other) and board certification in a relevant field. A minimum of three years of successful executive leadership/management experience in a complex healthcare setting is required. Experience working within the VA health care system is preferred.

The ACOS, GPEC must possess strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A broad-based knowledge of VA policies and procedures, Joint Commission standards, and health care issues and trends is essential to the success of the GPEC service.
