About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Transfer Station Operator. In this role, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing general labor duties at a municipal solid waste transfer station.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general site maintenance, including yard work, track maintenance, janitorial work, and minor repairs.
  • Maintain effective equipment checks (pre and post-operations).
  • Maintain various items at the transfer station for continual operation.
  • Provide instructions to customers for the proper location of disposal on the tipping floor.
  • Perform inspections effectively and accurately in accordance with state-mandated Waste Ban Regulations.
  • Ensure that customers and employees conduct all business in a safe manner and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform facility inspection checks as assigned by a Supervisor.
  • Follow and enforce all required Covanta safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred; we offer a fully funded GED program for employees.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts.
  • Experience working at sites regulated by OSHA preferred.
  • Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Must be flexible to work different shifts, including weekends.
  • Acts in a professional, courteous, and cooperative manner toward customers and co-workers.
Physical Demands:
  • Position requires working near and around mobile equipment and frequently exposed to hot/cold weather, including wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for the job and the assigned task.
  • Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
