The Custom Application Technician plays a crucial role in the precise customization and application of dry fertilizers across agricultural fields, while also managing the operation and maintenance of applicator machinery.

Daily Responsibilities

During the Growing Season

  • Advises on and administers pesticides and fertilizers by maneuvering various vehicles and machinery.
  • Keeps meticulous records of applied acres.
  • Conducts maintenance and calibration of application machinery.
  • Monitors weed management in treated areas.
  • Utilizes appropriate protective gear.
During the Off-Season
  • Engages in ongoing education to maintain pesticide applicator certification.
  • Participates in workshops focused on applicator machinery.
  • Performs upkeep on additional equipment and facilities.
  • Collects soil samples.
  • Prepares and mixes dry and liquid fertilizers.
  • Transports agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, and seeds.
  • Conducts customer outreach.
  • Undertakes other job-related tasks as directed by supervisors.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is expected.
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in operating large machinery is essential.
  • A valid CDL A or B is required.
  • Additional licenses or certifications may be necessary in certain regions based on specific contracts.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening and background investigation is required.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment for this role involves outdoor settings under various weather conditions, exposing employees to natural elements. While working outdoors and potentially around moving machinery, employees may encounter fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological risks, vibrations, and electrical hazards. This position requires manual dexterity for various tasks, along with the ability to talk, hear, walk, stand, and sit. Occasionally, employees may need to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
