Hospice Support Volunteer in West Virginia

The volunteer plays an essential role in improving the quality of care provided to patients and their families through various patient/family support activities or administrative tasks that align with the hospice agency's mission of delivering exceptional patient and family care.

Our commitment is to provide high-quality, cost-effective care that empowers individuals to manage their health in the comfort of their homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the hospice program and/or patients and families in accordance with assigned duties.
- Contribute insights during the Plan of Care and Interdisciplinary Group meetings as needed.
- Document services rendered accurately as per training and instructions from the hospice agency.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
- Report any changes in patient status or observations to the designated supervisor or Administrator.
- Participate in a minimum of four (4) in-service training sessions annually.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives for the agency.
Bereavement Volunteer: Understand the death and dying process; interact compassionately with families; assist with post-death arrangements; support agency memorial services or activities; promote community education on end-of-life matters. - Patient Care Volunteer: Maintain accurate, clear, timely, and objective documentation of each patient/family interaction; schedule regular visits as outlined in the Plan of Care; provide respite care for families; attend IDG meetings for updates on the Plan of Care as necessary; communicate any changes or observations to the assigned supervisor and Administrator.
- Administrative Volunteer: Complete all assigned tasks promptly; ensure paperwork is organized, thorough, and legible.
Experience: Less than 6 months
Educational Requirements
- Volunteers providing patient care and support services must comply with agency policies and work under the supervision of an agency employee based on their experience, training, and education.
- Demonstrated experience in working with individuals and a willingness to serve others.
- A mature, non-judgmental, compassionate, and people-oriented individual who supports the hospice philosophy of care.
- Completion of the Volunteer Training Program.
