Role Overview

The Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing all facets of Packing House operations, from the receipt of fruit to its processing and eventual shipment. This position is designed to cultivate individual and team capabilities to address operational challenges while inspiring team members to meet performance objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a background in the agricultural sector, manufacturing processes, continuous improvement methodologies, and hands-on management of perishable goods. Success in this role requires thriving in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the achievement, maintenance, and enhancement of safety protocols, food safety standards, quality assurance, operational effectiveness, equipment efficiency, personnel development, and financial performance.
  • Striving to optimize departmental production efficiencies while upholding the highest quality standards.
  • Collaborating with various departments to synchronize production activities in alignment with operational and business objectives.
  • Making timely operational decisions based on a variety of factors including safety, timing, fruit quality, staffing, budget constraints, and equipment status.
  • Maintaining a presence on the production floor 80% of the time, with 20% dedicated to administrative tasks.

Production Management:

  • Achieving production targets by enhancing Pack/Pre-Sort efficiency, optimizing fruit utilization, and minimizing product holds and customer claims.
  • Planning and managing daily staffing needs based on operational demands and labor cost considerations.
  • Producing accurate production reports and analyses based on production rates and statistics.
  • Ensuring team compliance and ongoing improvement of established operational procedures, including shift start-up, production runs, handoffs, shutdowns, and cleaning processes.
  • Overseeing the maintenance, sanitation, and operation of various manufacturing and packing equipment.
  • Identifying, developing, and supporting opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Facilitating smooth transitions between production shifts.

Logistics Management:

  • Monitoring and ensuring adherence to FIFO and WMS inventory protocols across the facility and external storage locations.
  • Managing daily inventory systems, processes, and procedures to achieve key business outcomes.
  • Reporting on daily inventories and FIFO status, addressing exceptions and outages, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Coordinating inventory movements and storage across facilities, including external storage as necessary.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent managerial experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience leading teams in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience in leading collaborative team environments that emphasize shared responsibilities and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Proven capability to empower teams and foster strong workforce development through training, coaching, and succession planning.
  • Proficiency in English is required; conversational Spanish is a plus.
  • Basic arithmetic and algebra skills are necessary; knowledge of statistical analysis methods is desirable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with Oracle and Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, charts, and graphs) is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work on various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and quality control.
  • A detail-oriented and highly organized approach, committed to delivering outstanding results.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment where open communication, a positive attitude, engagement, and accountability are valued.
  • Operational knowledge of food safety standards, regulations, and compliance, along with relevant food manufacturing experience.
  • Proven ability to deliver performance metrics aligned with business objectives and hold team members accountable.
  • A strong customer service orientation and results-driven mindset.
