Assistant Store Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Store Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the success of our stores by providing exceptional customer service, managing store operations, and leading a team of retail professionals. As a key member of our store management team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, well-organized store environment, managing inventory, and driving sales growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide superior customer service by greeting and assisting customers, operating a cash register, and resolving customer complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist the Store Manager with scheduling employees, providing training, and conducting safety meetings to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage merchandise by receiving, unpacking, stocking, and rotating products on shelves, as well as building merchandise displays.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels by controlling damages, markdowns, and scanning products.
  • Implement and maintain planograms to ensure merchandise is presented according to established practices and company direction.
  • Ensure financial integrity of the store by controlling cash handling, adhering to company security practices, and authorizing refunds and overrides.
  • Assist with management of the store in the Store Manager's absence.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of experience in a retail environment and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Good organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, perform mathematical calculations, and operate a cash register.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run the check-out station, stock merchandise, and unload trucks.
  • Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment.
  • Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
  • Occasional climbing using a step ladder up to heights of six feet.
  • Fast-paced environment; moderate noise level.
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Occasional or regular driving to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
