Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist II to join our team at MedStar Health. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for providing expert technical support during surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Anticipate and meet the sequential needs of surgeons and physicians during procedures.
  • Assist with case preparation, following established preference card guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Resource Nurse and Perioperative Educator to develop and provide competency-based orientation.
  • Precept staff and students, ensuring they receive comprehensive training and support.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly, identifying and troubleshooting issues promptly.
  • Function as a technical resource person, providing information on instruments and equipment, and assisting with planning and maintenance.
  • Assist during procedures, performing specified activities under the direct supervision of the surgeon/physician.
  • Identify and handle specimens appropriately, maintaining aseptic techniques and monitoring situations that could lead to breaches.
  • Participate in meetings and committees, representing the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Perform indirect patient care activities, such as patient transportation, as needed.
  • Provide comfort and support for patients, demonstrating sensitivity to their care and privacy.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a school of surgical technology or hospital-based program.
  • 1-2 years of surgical technologist experience.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Maintain 6 Continuing Education Credits per year.
  • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification preferred.
