About the Role

The Financial Aid Counselor will play a critical role in supporting students and their families in navigating the financial aid process. This position will be responsible for managing a caseload of students, providing guidance on financial aid eligibility, application procedures, and available financial aid programs. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of federal student aid rules and regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance to students and families on financial aid options and eligibility
  • Manage a caseload of students, reviewing applications for accuracy and verification
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations
  • Collaborate with the Mason Student Services Center to provide exceptional customer service
  • Review and process financial aid appeals, including income reduction appeals and SAP appeals
  • Assist in community outreach activities and provide guidance on financial aid-related matters
Requirements
  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal student aid rules and regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner financial aid software
