About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sustainability Engineer to join our team at Southwire Company, LLC. As a key member of our sustainability team, you will play a critical role in driving our company's overall operational sustainability strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Project Management: Provide engineering expertise for the delivery of Southwire's operational sustainability strategy, including technical project and design reviews of heavy industrial manufacturing infrastructure systems.
  • Sustainability Metrics and Analysis: Execute engineering assessments, including life cycle costs, sustainability metrics, and best value options analysis for all relevant capital projects.
  • Design and Optimization: Identify ideas and opportunities to drive cost-effective sustainable designs and customer value from the concept phase of CAPEX projects.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Partner with site leaders to create and revise equipment standards and specifications, RFPs, and overall system selection criteria.
  • Site Expansions and Master Planning: Provide engineering expertise for brown and greenfield site expansions, including the deployment of Southwire's sustainability design guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders to deliver value to our customers and connect with other functions, including corporate engineering, operations, and EHS.
  • Capital Project Management: Create capital projects from concept to execution, including financial acumen and managing bid documents/processes.
  • Utility Roadmaps and Site Masterplans: Develop utility roadmaps and site masterplans for all plant locations.
  • Vertical Start-ups and Process Improvement: Partner with stakeholders to lead vertical start-ups and related processes.
  • EHS and Sustainability: Promote health and safety in all aspects of the work and include environmental considerations in the decision-making process.
Requirements

Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's
Specialized Degree: Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Related
Certificates: Driver's License
Years of Experience: 10+
Field of Expertise: Industrial/Manufacturing, Utilities Design Experience

Preferred
Minimum Education Level: Master's
Specialized Degree: Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Related
Certificates: Professional Engineer
Years of Experience: 15+
Preferred Field of Expertise: Industrial/Manufacturing Plant Experience

Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates:
Utilities Design and optimization, including HVAC systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, compressed air systems, monitoring and control systems, pumping, wastewater treatment, and water treatment.

Knowledge in green building design, EMS/BMS, energy audit/management, ASHRAE codes, retro commissioning, power systems, and water stewardship is a plus. LEED certification experience is a plus.
