Job Title: School Nurse Substitute

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Nurse Substitute to join our team at Community ISD. As a School Nurse Substitute, you will provide direct care to students, assess health problems, and communicate with parents and healthcare professionals. You will also participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care to students using professional assessment skills and the nursing process.
  • Assess student problems, communicate with parents, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow-up as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students.
  • Ensure that medications are administered to students according to district policy and procedures.
  • Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs.
  • Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Collaborate closely with campus principal and other staff to ensure a healthy school environment.
  • Work with health services coordinator to develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program and make changes based on findings.
  • Supervise, train, and participate in evaluating LVNs, unlicensed diabetes care assistants, and other school personnel who have responsibility for assisting students with health needs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate and confidential student health records.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
  • 3 years nursing experience.

Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The environment is exposed to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. The mental demands include working with frequent interruptions and maintaining emotional control under stress.
