Job Summary

Duquesne Light Company, a leading provider of electric energy, is seeking a skilled Automotive Service Technician to join its team. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for performing service and general repair work on various types of company equipment, including cars, trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and operate company equipment to determine safe operating condition and recommend or perform necessary maintenance and repair work.
  • Perform inspections required by local, state, or federal agencies.
  • Diagnose, disassemble, assemble, repair, adjust, and service company equipment using common tools and equipment.
  • Remove and install engines, automatic transmissions, differential assemblies, air conditioning components, and fuel injection systems.
  • Diagnose, service, repair, and reinstall units such as alternators, generators, starters, distributors, voltage regulators, wiring, lighting, fuel pumps, carburetors, fuel injection devices, relays, sensors, and automotive computers.
  • Perform engine tune-up using common tools and instruments.
  • Perform front-end alignment, 2 and 4 wheel, and wheel balancing.
  • Perform road service work in all types of weather, day or night.
  • Perform minor welding, heating, and cutting using appropriate equipment.
  • Perform minor body work such as replacement of compartment doors, mirrors, door hardware, and straightening of metal parts.
  • Determine and order parts required to complete repair work and prepare shop forms such as job cards, inspection records, and requisitions for parts and equipment.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and hoist to perform engine replacement and the moving of other equipment parts.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years or comparable automotive repair experience.
  • Must pass the company-administered standardized aptitude test (CAST).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of mechanical principles of automotive equipment, the operation of internal combustion engines, and the component parts of automotive and related equipment.
  • Must have a State of Pennsylvania Commercial driver's license and pass Company driving test Class V.
  • Must be able to hold State requirements of certification for State Inspection (cars, light/heavy trucks) and Emissions work. Automotive Service Excellence certification (ASE) preferred.
  • Ability to work from Technical Services manuals and read wiring schematics.
  • Working knowledge of Company and Department safety rules.
