Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator to join our team. As a heavy equipment operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy, material-moving construction equipment to excavate, prepare, maintain, and/or repair civil and heavy highway-related projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate heavy equipment in and among live traffic and in a safe and effective manner.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks/procedures, as well as equipment lubrication.
- Wear personal protective equipment.
- Meet performance and technical standards.
- Comply with company quality control standards and procedures.
- Provide guidance and encouragement to promote teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency.
- Read grade stakes and use a lock level.
- Assist with approved loading and tie-down procedure.
- Complete required paperwork including Operator's Daily Report.
- Perform manual labor such as digging or shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material, or other manual labor duties.
- Communicate with Equipment Manager, Shop Superintendent, Leader, customers and peers concerning equipment and job-related problems.
- Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
- Frequently work more than 40 hours per week and non-traditional hours including night shift, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Requirements:
- Experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to meet performance and technical standards.
- Compliance with company quality control standards and procedures.
