Position Summary:

The Waste Management Technician C plays a crucial role in the daily oversight of solid and hazardous waste streams, ensuring compliance with relevant Federal, State, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain assigned work areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assist in the correct handling, documentation, inspection, and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Evaluate various waste types to determine appropriate disposal methods.
  • Label and inventory hazardous wastes as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Manage satellite accumulation areas, including the transfer of drums/containers to designated storage.
  • Support facility compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, maintaining necessary records and documentation.
  • Oversee the daily collection of recyclable materials as needed.
  • Respond to and assist in mitigating emergency situations involving waste, including hazardous materials.
  • Operate various material handling equipment safely.
  • Maintain and operate solid waste management equipment such as filter presses, drum crushers, balers, and compactors.
  • Assist the Supervisor in scheduling pickups for non-hazardous waste, hazardous waste, recyclable materials, and steel drums.
  • Report any personnel issues, job coordination challenges, equipment damages, accidents, or safety hazards to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Be prepared to respond to plant emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to three years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate information regarding hazardous waste management.
  • Must meet respirator requirements and obtain a forklift license.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and safe use of common hand tools.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds and maneuver containers up to 500 pounds.
  • Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Capable of standing or walking for 90% of an 8-hour workday, including climbing ladders or steps.
  • Must meet vision and hearing requirements.
