Job Title: Sergeant

Vanderbilt University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sergeant to join our Public Safety Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing law enforcement, crime prevention duties, and other general police/security services.

Responsibilities:
  • Enforce state and local laws as well as Vanderbilt University policies and procedures.
  • Perform proactive patrol on foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or vehicle.
  • Provide field supervision, support, and backup of officers while working a post, zone, or watch in an assigned area.
  • Train new police officers and evaluate them as outlined in the Field Training program.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, including alarms, hazardous material spills, traffic crashes, and criminal activity in progress.
  • Conduct investigations, interviews, and photo lineups as needed.
  • Prepare and submit reports, including incident reports, accident reports, and other documentation.
  • Provide security for events, such as athletic events, concerts, and visiting dignitaries.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • At least 21 years of age required.
  • Graduate from an accredited, approved Police Academy required.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record required.
  • One year of experience as a Corporal at VUPD or three years of experience as a Certified Police Officer with an accredited law enforcement agency required.
