Position Overview:
As a key member of the Imaging Services team, the Advanced Obstetric Sonographer plays a vital role in producing high-quality two-dimensional ultrasonic images of internal organs. This position is crucial for assisting physicians in diagnosing medical conditions and understanding organ functionality. The sonographer will utilize advanced technology to ensure optimal patient care while adhering to safe and efficient practices.
Core Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills by clearly explaining procedures to patients, alleviating concerns, and ensuring cooperation.
- Prepares and positions patients effectively for examinations.
- Selects appropriate ultrasound equipment based on examination requirements.
- Adjusts transducer settings and equipment controls tailored to the specific organ being examined.
- Operates ultrasound machinery to generate images of internal structures and records diagnostic information accurately.
- Manually maneuvers the transducer over designated body areas, monitoring the quality of ultrasonic patterns displayed.
- Captures and archives images of internal examinations for medical records.
- Inputs test data and patient details into the ultrasound system to maintain comprehensive records.
- Provides orientation and training for new staff members.
- Undertakes additional related tasks as necessary.
Supervisory Role:
This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Not applicable.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Licensure and Certification:
Must possess two ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) certifications in the relevant specialty area. BLS certification is also required.
Additional Requirements:
- Prenatal: NT certification is necessary for conducting genetic screenings in Prenatal Diagnostic Centers. Candidates may be hired without certification but must obtain it within 90 days of employment.
- Cardiac: The ARDMS Fetal Echocardiography certification will be recognized for career advancement from Dedicated Specialty Sonographer I to Dedicated Specialty Sonographer II in Obstetrical labs.

This position is based in a hospital setting, contributing to the Genetics-Trimester 1 Screening department.
