About This Position
We are seeking an exceptionally skilled Legal Assistant to join our esteemed Staunton Public Defender Office. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, providing vital administrative support to attorneys, investigators, and mitigation specialists.
Job Responsibilities
- Greet visitors, manage phone calls, and schedule appointments effectively, showcasing excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Utilize Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel, as well as Google Suite tools, to create and edit various documents, memos, and legal papers.
- Maintain accurate filing systems, both electronic and manual, ensuring seamless access to essential information.
- Process mail, sort, distribute, and prepare correspondence efficiently.
- Develop strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and judicial system personnel through effective oral and written communication.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in an office setting, with knowledge of standard practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with Microsoft applications and Google Suite tools, including Gmail and Google Docs.
- Excellent keyboarding skills and ability to maintain electronic and manual filing systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to communicate compassionately with clients, their support networks, and other stakeholders in the legal system.
What We Offer
In addition to this rewarding role, we provide a competitive salary range of $42,000-$55,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance, generous paid time off, and retirement savings opportunities.
