The Peer Recovery Support Specialist position is a two-year grant-funded role reporting to the Associate Dean of Interprofessional Education and Community Engagement. This position is tailored for an empathetic individual with personal experience in substance use recovery, dedicated to assisting others on their journey to wellness.

Key ResponsibilitiesPeer Support:
  • Provide individualized support to those in recovery, sharing personal insights to inspire trust and motivation.
  • Lead SMART Recovery meetings and peer-led support groups.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support as necessary.
  • Extend peer support to students from various educational institutions.
  • Collaborate with local crisis response units and shelters to deliver comprehensive peer support and case management services.
Resource Navigation:
  • Assist clients in accessing essential community resources, including housing, employment, healthcare, and social services.
  • Guide clients through enrollment in treatment programs and facilitate access to mental and physical health services.
Advocacy:
  • Champion the needs and rights of individuals in recovery within the clinic and the wider community.
  • Support clients in developing self-advocacy skills.
Education and Outreach:
  • Conduct outreach initiatives to enhance awareness of recovery resources and services offered by the clinic.
  • Engage in community events and workshops aimed at promoting prevention, recovery, and reducing stigma.
  • Provide Narcan training in various settings.
Collaboration:
  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including mental health professionals and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care for clients.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in addiction treatment/prevention or a related field preferred, or certification as a peer-support specialist with relevant experience.
  • Lived experience with substance use and a minimum of two years of sustained recovery.
