Job Summary

The Certified Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of respiratory care duties on general nursing units and in critical care areas, including MICU, NICU, SICU, CSCU, PACU, Nursery, and Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluates the therapeutic benefits of respiratory care services rendered to patients
  • Discusses with physicians any difficulties patients may be having with therapy and makes recommendations
  • Participates in the orientation of respiratory care staff
  • Teaches and counsels staff on the use of available equipment
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate from an accredited, state-approved Respiratory Therapy Program
  • Currently licensed by the Mississippi Department of Health or Current Military validated licensure
  • Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Must complete and maintain current BCLS certification
  • Current certification in ACLS and Neonatal Resuscitation required
  • One year experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist preferred
Working Conditions
  • Work is moderately active, involving sitting and frequent movement
  • Subject to exposure of bodily fluids, sputum, and tissues
  • Must be able to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine discriminations
  • Must be able to work schedules assigned with flexibility
Special Demands
  • Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer and other office technology
  • Valid driver's license required for traveling throughout the SRHS service area
