Job Title: Service Advisor


Department: Service


Reports To: Service Manager


FLSA Status: Exempt


Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.


Summary:


The Service Advisor is responsible for scheduling service work in the service department and selling additional services to customers.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring timely and accurate service.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to determine the nature of their mechanical problems.
  • Obtain accurate customer and vehicle data.
  • Test-drive vehicles as necessary.
  • Advise customers on the care of their vehicles and the value of maintaining them according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Lift the hood of every vehicle and inspect for potential additional repair needs.
  • Clearly explain repair instructions and note the main reason for the customer's visit.
  • Notify the dispatcher of incoming work.
  • Provide estimates for labor and parts, and obtain customer approval.
  • Establish each customer's method of payment and obtain credit approval if necessary.
  • Obtain customer signatures on repair orders and provide a copy.
  • Follow up on the progress of each repair order and contact customers regarding any changes in the estimated time.
  • Handle telephone inquiries regarding work in progress and appointments.
  • Compare final invoices with original repair orders.
  • Analyze quality control reports to ensure work is completed as requested.
  • Deliver vehicles to customers and answer any questions.
  • Maintain a follow-up program for additional items found in need of repair.
  • Attend scheduled meetings.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
  • Ensure work areas and customer waiting areas are kept clean.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:


Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills:


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY:


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


Current, valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
