Job Summary

Columbia University is seeking a highly skilled Associate Health Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental Health and Safety department, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining radiation safety programs across various Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of radiation safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct radiation protection audits, surveys, and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide health physics support for diagnostic and therapeutic radiation administration in various clinical areas.
  • Measure and document radiation levels around patients receiving therapeutic treatments.
  • Conduct surveys on radiation-protective equipment and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain inventories of radiation detection instruments and radioactive materials.
  • Respond to radioactive material spills and other radiation emergencies.
  • Collect, survey, and process radioactive material waste.
  • Prepare and generate routine reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in physical, biological, or related science.
  • Minimum one year of experience in radiation protection or a closely related field.
  • Eligibility for certification by a recognized health physics or medical physics certifying body.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diplomacy and efficiency in a pressured environment.
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
