Key Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and seek necessary training for procedures involving laboratory animals, including:
  • Conducting clinical observations, monitoring food intake, measuring body weights, and performing urine collection.
  • Administering and overseeing anesthesia, conducting mating procedures, and managing test and control substances.
  • Collecting blood samples, performing euthanasia, and conducting tissue collection.
  • Executing catheter placements and managing feeding protocols.
  • Carrying out pre- and post-surgical assessments on laboratory animals.
Perform additional laboratory or animal procedures as dictated by protocols and SOPs.Demonstrate proficiency in intravenous (IV) injections in mice.Assist surgical teams as required.Support veterinarians in their duties as needed.Monitor and document all signs of animal health, reporting any changes to the Supervisor or Study Director.Provide daily care and maintenance for research animals, ensuring compliance with established health and cleanliness standards.Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all tasks performed.Collaborate with the Study Director to address quality assurance audits.Assist the Quality Assurance Unit in ensuring GLP compliance.Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of laboratory spaces.Work independently to manage time effectively and complete assigned tasks.Guide and assist fellow technicians with various procedures as assigned.Support Study Directors and Sponsors in developing innovative procedures.Perform minor recovery and major non-recovery surgical procedures.Carry out additional duties as assigned, including cage washing and cleaning tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or AALAS certifications of LAT.
  • Experience with SQ, IM, IP, and IV injections on laboratory animals, including rodents, ferrets, rabbits, pigs, and small ruminants.
  • Proficiency in IV drug administration and gavage techniques for mice and rats.
  • Ability to place IV catheters and intubate rodents and large animals.
  • Familiarity with anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of surgical instrument sterilization and lab animal diseases.
  • Understanding of federal regulations governing animal research.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
