The Cytogenetic/FISH Technologist will be responsible for performing various laboratory tasks under general supervision, including culture initiation, harvest, metaphase and interphase slide prep, and G-banding of bone marrow and peripheral blood specimens. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biology, chemistry, or a related field, and a minimum of one year of experience in a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform culture initiation, harvest, metaphase and interphase slide prep, and G-banding of bone marrow and peripheral blood specimens
  • Perform computer-assisted and manual analysis of chromosomes for the detection of abnormalities
  • Perform FISH processing and analysis using automated software
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment needed to perform daily duties
  • Perform daily QA/QC tasks

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Molecular or related field
  • Minimum one year of related experience in a clinical setting
  • Critical thinking skills, including solid problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, presentation), active listening, and balanced feedback
  • Strong customer focus, ability to build an engaging culture of quality, performance effectiveness, and operational excellence
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from a variety of stakeholders and sites
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
  • CG(ASCP) certification required, State of Florida clinical laboratory technologist license in the area pertinent to the testing being performed, valid state driver's license for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings
