Job Overview

Position: Photogrammetric Orthorectification

Responsibilities:

  • The role involves the precise orthorectification of a substantial collection of historical black-and-white aerial photographs, focusing on a designated area of interest. Opportunities may arise to extend this work to additional areas, contingent upon budget and funding availability.
  • The selected candidate will execute the orthorectification and integration of aerial imagery within the primary project timeline, with potential extensions for further areas of interest, maintaining the same standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Final deliverables, including individual orthorectified images and composite mosaics, must adhere to established National Standards for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) criteria. All digital outputs will be accompanied by metadata files that meet federal data requirements.
  • The candidate will utilize NSSDA methodologies to assess positional accuracy, reporting findings in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) for each dataset at a specified confidence level.
  • Accuracy assessments will be conducted by comparing the coordinates of identifiable points in the dataset against a reliable independent dataset, ensuring thorough testing across a minimum number of well-distributed checkpoints.
  • Orthorectified and mosaicked images must be compatible with industry-standard GIS software, ensuring high aesthetic quality and seamless integration.
  • Compliance with Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata standards is essential for all datasets produced.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in digital photogrammetry and the orthorectification of historical aerial imagery, particularly in similar geological environments.
  • All candidate-provided data will be made publicly accessible.
