Position Overview:

The Technical Project Manager for the Compliance & Privacy team is responsible for spearheading critical initiatives aimed at safeguarding user privacy and adhering to global regulations concerning messaging and calling, collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.

Role Summary:


This position serves as a pivotal link between privacy, processes, and product development. The TPM will navigate these areas while considering the needs of users, regulators, and the organization. The goal is to ensure that products not only meet high standards for privacy but also manage necessary trade-offs effectively.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to distill and integrate diverse viewpoints to achieve optimal outcomes for users, regulatory bodies, and the company. Furthermore, the TPM must excel in strategic communication, articulating progress and its implications for company objectives in a manner that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive company-wide initiatives focused on responsible data usage and shape the strategy for a privacy-centric future of the messaging platform.
  • Evaluate technological requirements, resource allocation, and market and regulatory trends to formulate robust project plans.
  • Oversee cross-functional projects involving marketing, product development, engineering, legal, policy, and leadership teams to meet objectives; track and report on progress regularly.
  • Assist engineers with technical implementations.
  • Act as the privacy product authority within the Messenger organization, providing consultation and influencing various projects.
  • Support Privacy Product Group reviews and assist with project support for privacy advocates, including bug triage and remediation efforts.

Essential Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities; adept at uniting diverse stakeholders to achieve objectives amidst significant ambiguity.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership; capable of influencing stakeholders even when the requests conflict with their team's priorities.
  • Proficient in desktop and cloud-based applications, including Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, and project management tools.
  • Solid understanding of business and management principles related to strategic planning, resource allocation, and product development methodologies, including PMP, Waterfall, and Agile.
  • Ability to comprehend technical architecture or code related to web, mobile applications, and database systems.
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in data privacy, security, compliance, and user safety.
