Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer, MOW to lead our Maintenance of Way (MOW) engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on the design, development, and implementation of MOW systems, including signals, traction power, track/rail, and structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and review conceptual and detailed designs of railroad signals, substations, and overhead catenary (OCS) systems, track, rail, and structures.
  • Prepare designs, calculations, cost estimates, documentation, and public presentation materials related to MOW signals/substations/OCS systems, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of defects.
  • Evaluate the functional feasibility, electrical and mechanical design, and system reliability of various electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and hardware associated with future and existing MAX maintenance of way systems.
  • Coordinate with other TriMet engineers, staff, and consultants to ensure compatible designs.
  • Review product and systems submittals for compliance with contract requirements and TriMet criteria.
  • Prepare documents for the maintenance standards and procedures of MOW Signal and Traction Power systems, installations, and equipment.
  • Assist with administration of contracts relating to the procurement, installation, testing, and start-up of various MOW disciplines, hardware, software, and related equipment.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, consultants, and other system, track, structural, and civil contracts on construction issues.
  • Prepare minutes, documentation, specifications, and technical reports, and review such material generated by others.
  • Assist with preparation of contract specifications and bid documents.
  • Responsible for approving and maximizing relevant design criteria, MOW inspection and test procedures, and MOW Maintenance Standards.
  • Monitor maintenance and manufacturing activities to assure contractual and manufacturer compliance.
  • Perform field measurements and calculations to verify quantities and quality of completed work.
  • Assist with contracts administration for management of equipment procurement, testing, and consultant contracts.
  • Provide lead expert guidance to MOW management, supervisors, consultants, systems engineering, and other support staff as required for specific assignments and within the guidelines provided by the MOW Director of Operations.
  • Represent TriMet at various interagency meetings and industry meetings as a technical representative.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a relevant engineering degree.
  • A minimum of six (6) years total credited experience.
  • Six (6) years of experience as a competent practicing engineer is required.
  • Six (6) years of engineering experience in an area directly applicable to MOW signals, OCS, and substation systems design, inspection, and manufacturing or maintenance management is required.
  • A PE - Professional Engineer license/certificate is required within one (1) year of employment.
  • Or any equivalent combination of training or experience.

  • Minimum: $114,749.00
  • Maximum: $172,125.00
  • Salary offers will be determined by a candidate's education, training, and relevant experience.
