Hartford HealthCare's Ayer Neuroscience Institute is seeking a skilled Neuro-Trauma / Neuro-Spine Neurosurgeon to enhance our team at Hartford Hospital.
Hartford Hospital is a premier 867-bed academic medical facility located in downtown Hartford. It is recognized as a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, NAEC Level 4 Epilepsy Center, and Joint Commission Advanced Spine Center.
The neurosurgery department at Hartford Hospital is one of the most active in New England, staffed by 9 Neurosurgeons and over 20 Physician Assistants, performing more than 2,000 neurosurgical procedures annually. Our program encompasses a wide range of subspecialties, including Functional Neurosurgery, Epilepsy, Skull Base Surgery, Complex Spine Surgery, Neurosurgical Oncology, Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, as well as trauma care.
The selected candidate will have immediate access to a high volume of cases, focusing on urgent neuro-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and complex spinal conditions. There will also be opportunities to maintain an elective practice alongside acute surgical interventions. Additionally, the surgeon will lead the neurosurgery efforts within the trauma team, oversee the Head Injury Program, and act as a liaison for Neurocritical Care.

- 867-bed facility with dedicated Neurosurgery Operating Rooms, neuroscience units, and a Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit.
- Level 1 trauma center, recognized for excellence in stroke and epilepsy care.
- State-of-the-art surgical technology, including Mazor X spine robots, Medtronic O-Arm, Stealth Navigation systems, and advanced microscopes.
- Five dedicated Neurosurgery Operating Rooms with specialized staffing.
- Two dedicated neuroscience units and a 23-bed Neuroscience ICU, supported by neurocritical care nurses, Advanced Practice Providers, and 8 Neurointensivists.
- Dedicated Neurosurgery Nurse Navigators to assist patients throughout their care journey.
- Collaboration with UCONN School of Medicine for a Neurosurgery Residency Program.
- Opportunities for teaching and collaborative clinical research with UCONN's dedicated research department.
- Air ambulance service (LIFE STAR) available for patient transport across New England.
Qualifications:
- Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
- Interest in Neuro-Trauma and Neuro-Spine Surgery.
- Board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in Connecticut.
