Radiology Technologist Job Description

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Radiology Technologist to join our team on a per diem basis. As a Radiology Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our radiology department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Determine the appropriate radiological technique and position for patients using immobilization and support devices.
  • Position patients, adjust equipment, secure and immobilize support devices as needed to perform procedures.
  • Determine the appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films for radiologists.
  • Secure patient history and record it on the appropriate form for radiologists to review.
  • Operate advanced and sophisticated radiology equipment.
  • Assist radiologists with procedures, including advanced and specialty procedures.
  • Adhere to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality patient care.
  • Use universal precautions in daily performance of procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff.
  • Administer CPR as necessary.
  • Ensure accuracy of examinations performed and requisitions.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as maintaining patient records, daily statistics, answering telephones, and scheduling examinations.
  • Determine appropriate ICD-9 codes for completed procedures.
  • Coordinate quality control tasks, including checking film quality and ensuring proper labeling.
  • Coordinate patient flow and communicate with radiologists and other personnel to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare radiology rooms for procedures and equipment and supplies as required.
  • Report deficient inventory and linen to immediate supervisor.
  • Label radiology images according to department standards and criteria.
  • Prepare contrast media as necessary following department standards and manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Perform daily sensitometry of processors and assist physicist and/or state inspector in performance of annual inspections.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology.
  • IDNS license.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a general radiographer.
  • Knowledge of Health Information System.
  • Basic knowledge of radiology equipment.
  • Certified in radiology and registered by ARRT.
  • CPR certification.
  • Licensed by IDNS.
Working Conditions:

Able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high-quality patient care. High degree of technical skills. Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. Ability to deal with extremely ill patients. Ability to lift and/or move patients. Ability to work under stressful conditions, in difficult situations. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. Ability to work rotating shifts during Center's hours of operation.

For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
