The Safety Management Specialist is an essential professional dedicated to the formulation, execution, and oversight of safety initiatives and protocols within the organization. The individual in this position is tasked with offering expert advice on safety regulations and best practices to various affiliates at a professional level.
The successful candidate will possess a robust background in safety management, particularly in areas such as OSHA-related audits, workplace safety assessments, compliance with OSHA and local regulations, incident management, and safety advisory services. This role necessitates close collaboration with management personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement thorough safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Perform on-site safety audits, assessments, and inspections to identify and address potential risks.
- Recommend corrective or preventive actions to reduce workplace incidents and accidents.
- Prepare audit and inspection reports to document findings and track progress on corrective actions.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards.
- Oversee OSHA-related reporting, record-keeping, and compliance requirements.
- Investigate safety incidents to identify root causes and propose solutions to prevent future occurrences.
- Provide expert support and guidance to affiliates on safety and health matters.
- Establish and implement emergency action plans and conduct assessments for affiliates.
- Create and deliver safety training and educational programs for employees and affiliates.
- Organize and lead safety seminars or webinars focused on relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Offer expert consulting to affiliates regarding OSHA compliance and safety issues based on thorough hazard analysis.
- Monitor and follow up on OSHA-related violations and citation cases.
- Stay informed on current legislation, industry standards, and best practices in safety management.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and initiatives.
- Perform additional safety-related tasks as assigned.
Required Competencies:
- Expertise in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health.
- Comprehensive understanding of organizational goals and strategic direction.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to generate innovative solutions.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Active involvement in setting departmental objectives to align with organizational plans.
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Preferred safety-related certifications include:
- OSHA Safety Certificate,
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP),
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP),
- Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST),
- Safety Management Specialist (SMS),
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related discipline is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems is essential.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with OSHA or DOL conducting safety inspections is advantageous.
- OSHA 501 Authorized Outreach Trainer certification is preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in OSHA compliance is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to conduct inspections and transport necessary equipment.
- Capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Travel Requirements:
- Approximately 40% travel may be required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.
