Position Title: Individual Support Specialist

Reports to: Principal and Director of Special Education

Job Objective:
The Individual Support Specialist is responsible for providing personalized assistance and care to students under the guidance of a designated educator. This role involves a variety of supportive tasks aimed at enhancing the educational experience of students with specific needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid aide certification from the Ohio Department of Education.
- Compliance with state and federal educational requirements, including necessary educational credits or successful completion of standardized tests.
- Adherence to health mandates, including a clear tuberculosis screening.
- A clean criminal record suitable for public school employment.
- Commitment to maintaining a drug-free workplace and adherence to district policies.
- Ability to assist students with physical disabilities, including mobility and positioning support.
- Capability to lift at least fifty pounds.

Essential Functions:

1. Collaborate with the assigned teacher for guidance and instructions.
2. Develop basic skills to support student needs, such as sign language or other communication methods.
3. Uphold district policies and administrative procedures.
4. Monitor students during emergencies when the teacher is unavailable.
5. Foster effective communication and community partnerships to enhance student learning.
6. Assist students with both remedial and enrichment activities, ensuring a positive learning environment.
7. Support students with disabilities in participating in appropriate educational activities.
8. Help with personal hygiene and medical care as trained by licensed professionals.
9. Maintain confidentiality and respect student privacy at all times.
10. Participate in ongoing professional development and staff meetings.
